PANAJI: Holy Spirit Institute, Margao defeated Our Lady of Health High School, Cuncolim, 1-0 in the Boys U-14 Subroto Cup inter-school football tournament (Salcete Taluka) organized by the Directorate of Sports and Youth Affairs (DSYA) at the Artificial turf ground Fatorda, on Wednesday.

Major Ranking Badminton – Triple for Rudra, Tanisha wins double



Rudra Dukle and Tanisha Crasto won triple and double crowns while Shourya Joshi emerged Boys Under 15 singles winner, at the All Goa Sub Junior Major Ranking Badminton Tournament organised by Mapusa Shuttlers in collaboration with Goa Badminton Association, DSYA and Yonex Sunnrise, at Peddem Sports Complex, Mapusa. Tanisha and Shourya, who have both come down from Dubai to participate in this year’s Goa Badminton season, demonstrated good footwork, speed and skills to emerge deserving winners.  Rudra Dukle, the rising shuttler from Margao, won the Under 13 Boys singles title and the U13 and U15 doubles, teaming up with Yash Desai and Arjun Fallary respectively. Tanisha who won the U15 Girls singles teamed up with Lydia Barreto to emerge Girls U15 Doubles champion. Arshia Gautam won the U13 Girls singles event while Andrea Kalavammpara and Aakanksha Tiwari won their maiden title in U13 girls doubles category. Chirag Mahale and Siya Kolwalkar emerged promising players of the championship.

Junior Major Ranking Badminton Tournament at Sanquelim - July 1 & 2


Sanquelim Shuttlers in collaboration with Goa Badminton Association and the DSYA will be organising an All Goa Junior Major Ranking Badminton Tournament, at Badminton Courts, Sanquelim Sports Complex, Sanquelim, from July 1 to 2 (10am to 8 pm). 

The championship will be held in the categories of Boys/ Girls Singles and Doubles in Under-17 and Under-19 age groups and Mixed Doubles in Under-19.

MES wins FIFA World Cup Quiz organized by St. Xavier's College

MES College, Zuarinagar emerged winners of the intercollegiate FIFA World Cup Quiz contest organized by St. Xavier’s College, Mapusa on Wednesday.

A total of 14 teams participated in the quiz contest from which nine were eliminated after the preliminary round. The five teams that made it to the finals were MES College, Padre Conceicao College of Engineering (PCCE), Fr. Agnel’s College Pilar, NIT Farmagudi and Kare College of Law Margao.

The finals consisted for five rounds inclusive of Infinite Bounce, Rapid Fire and Choice of Grids. Mr. Brian D’Souza, assistant professor in Mathematics, was the quiz master.

As’ad Shah and Kiran Desai was the winning combination that helped MES take the top spot. The second and third place was bagged by Kare College and PCCE respectively.

Vice-President of the Goa Football Association Mr. Lavinio Rebello, who is an alumnus of St. Xavier’s College, was the chief guest and gave away the prizes. In his address he urged all the participants to grab every opportunity to showcase their talents. He also advised them to strive for excellence and do small things in a big way.


Earlier, Principal of St. Xavier’s College Dr. (Fr.) Walter de Sa, in his welcome address, greeted the winning teams. “We want to inculcate good values and bring people together. This is what an event like this has done as sports can bring billions of people together,” Dr. Walter said.
