MES wins FIFA World Cup Quiz organized by St. Xavier's College

MES College, Zuarinagar emerged winners of the intercollegiate FIFA World Cup Quiz contest organized by St. Xavier’s College, Mapusa on Wednesday.

A total of 14 teams participated in the quiz contest from which nine were eliminated after the preliminary round. The five teams that made it to the finals were MES College, Padre Conceicao College of Engineering (PCCE), Fr. Agnel’s College Pilar, NIT Farmagudi and Kare College of Law Margao.

The finals consisted for five rounds inclusive of Infinite Bounce, Rapid Fire and Choice of Grids. Mr. Brian D’Souza, assistant professor in Mathematics, was the quiz master.

As’ad Shah and Kiran Desai was the winning combination that helped MES take the top spot. The second and third place was bagged by Kare College and PCCE respectively.

Vice-President of the Goa Football Association Mr. Lavinio Rebello, who is an alumnus of St. Xavier’s College, was the chief guest and gave away the prizes. In his address he urged all the participants to grab every opportunity to showcase their talents. He also advised them to strive for excellence and do small things in a big way.


Earlier, Principal of St. Xavier’s College Dr. (Fr.) Walter de Sa, in his welcome address, greeted the winning teams. “We want to inculcate good values and bring people together. This is what an event like this has done as sports can bring billions of people together,” Dr. Walter said.

Tejan, Anura and Yasmin top SAG State Ranking Badminton tourney


Tejan Fallary, Anura Prabhudesai and Yasmin Sayed had plenty to celebrate at the SAG State Ranking Badminton championship organised by Goa Badminton Association in collaboration with the Sports Authority of Goa, at Indoor stadium, Campal, Panaji. Tejan bagged a triple crown, winning the Boys Under 17 and Under 19 singles and the Under 19 Boys doubles partnering Sanath Kamat. Anura romped home winner in Girls Under 17 and Under 19 singles while Yasmin emerged winner in Girls Under 13 and Under 15 singles, both girls winning double crowns each. Parteek Mahajan emerged Mens singles champion. The Mens doubles title was won by Pankaj Naik and Navneet Nasnodkar. Soham Khandeparkar and Aashrun Gautam emerged Boys Under 13 and Under 15 Boys singles champions respectively.

Mr. B. Vijayan, Chief Secretary, Government of Goa, was the Chief Guest for the occasion. Mr. Richard De Souza (President, Goa Badminton Association), Shri Narahar Thakur (Secretary, GBA) and GBA committee members Ashok Menon, Gaurish Dhond, Sarfraz Sheikh, Sandeep Heble, Shashank Naik, Luciano Soares and Santosh Prabhudesai graced the occasion. The tournament was officiated by NIS Coaches Roy Athaide and Vinayak Kamat.
