St. Xavier's College, Mapusa were crowned champions of the Inter-Collegiate Basketball tournament for men and women, organized by the Goa University. In the Men’s final St.Xavier’s College defeated MES College, Zuarinagar by a narrow 23-21 margin.

Dr. Gopakumar, Goa University Librarian, was the Chief Guest for the presentation ceremony and awarded medals and Trophies to the Winner's & Runner's-Up.

As part of it's golden jubilee celebrations, St. Xavier's College of Arts, Commerce & Science, Mapusa, Goa will be organized XAVIERATHON on December 19. The event is a 6km marathon, primarily organized to promote fitness among all age groups.

The run will be flagged-off from the present college campus at 7.30 am. To bring a feel of nostalgia, the plan is to chalk out a route towards Fransalian Institute, Bastora where St. Xavier's College was initially started in 1963. The runners will move towards the old campus of the college and come back.

With the focus on fitness, participation is open to all. Chest numbers will have to be collected from the registration counter between 6:30 am to 7:00 am on the day of the event. Goa Football Development Council will be organising a Sports Medicine Seminar on 9th December’2012 at the Vivanta by Taj, Panaji from 9.30 a.m. to 5.30 p.m as one of our major aspect to drive football in a scientific manner.

Among the prominent speakers for the programme is Dr. Vece Paes, a doctor of Goan origin , former Olympian and father of tennis star Leander Paes would speak on ‘Long term development of the Athlete (Footballer)/Role of deliberate practice in attaining expertise in the sport’ along with other leading doctors from NS NIS, Patiala, National Institute of Nutrition, Hyderabad and Symbiosis International University, Pune viz. Dr. Ashok Ahuja Dr. Venkata Ramana, Dr. Sanjeev Sahni, Dr. Ashish Phulkar, Dr. Sheel Sheth.

The programme will be attended by football coaches /trainers, football administrators/managers, physiotherapists and nutritionists of football teams, former and current players, directors of physical education, students of physical education and referees.
