I was having my daily glance at sports websites. One story immediately caught my eyes and no points for guessing, it was an Arsenal related story.
Former Arsenal striker Thierry Henry asks the same question that I have been trying to answer from a long time - Can Arsenal find anyone better than Arsene Wenger?
Well, with the six seasons without a trophy critics would certainly feel that its time for a change in manager for Arsenal. Wenger hasn't been using the funds well and he has failed to get results from his extremely young squad.
For once lets assume Arsenal sack Wenger. Now what? Whom do you look for? Bring in any name and ponder whether he can provide the same things that Wenger did. A change in manager would mean a change in the entire system at the club. The Gunners may have to do away with their most impressive style of play, something that the club has been admired for ever since Wenger joined the Gunners in 1996 as manager. The team spirit that is visible in the current squad may vanish too.
Being a die hard Gooner and an admirer of Wenger, I salute the Frenchman's contribution to the club. Arsenal owe much of their success to the French tactician. The North London side has tasted real success ever since he took up the manager's post. His quality to spot football wonder-kids makes him one of the most desirable managers in the game. Players like Thierry Henry, Robert Pires, Tony Adams, Freddy Ljungberg, Denis Bergkamp, Patrick Vieira, Cesc Fabregas and many more have flourished under Wenger.
Many may not have faith in the current Arsenal squad. To be honest, I too feel the same. But in the long run this team has the potential to make history, provided Wenger does not let the player leave the club in a few years. This has actually been a crucial reason to the downfall of the Gunners.
The team started miserably in the ongoing EPL but the way they have bounced back with some impressive results including the 5-3 hammering of Chelsea, Arsenal seem to be right back on track. Yes it is going to be close to impossible to snatch the title from league leaders Manchester City and their arch-rivals Man United who are placed second. Nevertheless, such results give them an added booster to compete in the other competitions.
All Wenger needs to do is continue with his strategies and things will fall in place. What he seriously needs to stop doing is - letting players leave the club after few impressive seasons. He often tends to release players right at the time when they are in their peak form.
Rest all seems fine. I predict at least one title this season for the Gunners.
In Arsene We Trust.
